How do you get into the fastest dog competition? ›

Fast CAT is open to all dogs at least 12 months of age, including mixed-breed dogs. To compete, dogs must be individually registered with the AKC through either standard registration, FSS, Purebred Alternative Listing, or AKC Canine Partners (for mixed breeds.) Females in season may not enter.

Licensed and member clubs may offer Sanctioned B or OB matches to educate exhibitors and judges and provide an experience for handlers, puppies and/or inexperienced dogs. Group and Specialty clubs may give obedience matches with their dog show matches but obedience clubs may not give dog show matches.

Dogs of all breeds participate year-long, around the country, in AKC Fast Coursing Ability Tests (Fast CAT) – the 100-yard dash for dogs.

Now, he's the Beagle with the most titles in Fast CAT, competing in the 2024 AKC Fastest Dogs USA competition, being held in Glendale, AZ, on February 22-23.

AKC DNA Profile Program

The information is used for genetic identify purposes and to verify parentage of AKC dogs. AKC DNA does not determine the breed of a dog or if a dog is a purebred. This technology allows breeders, dog owners, and the AKC to ensure that the AKC Registry is the most accurate in the world.

TITLES ARE SUFFIX TITLES EARNED AT DESIGNATED MILESTONES: The BCAT Title is awarded when the dog reaches 150 points. The DCAT Title is awarded when the dog reaches 500 points, The FCAT Title is awarded for 1000 points. An FCAT Title number e.g. FCAT1 is awarded for each additional 500 points.

Your dog gets a ribbon a few ways in fast CAT… They get a qualifying ribbon if they finish the 100-yard dash, the blue ribbons in the above photo! That also means if your dog turns around and doesn't go to the end, no ribbon unfortunately. Next, when your dog runs you are given their speed in MPH and their points.

How much do competition dogs make? ›

The Best in Show winner does not receive a cash prize. Much like an unpaid internship, the winner is paid with the experience of having won, even if that isn't easy on the bank account. The winners of the agility and obedience contests do receive monetary prizes of $5,000, but it isn't for them.
