Mainframe Components Via Location Challenges
Everspace 2 has an interesting approach to ship upgrades. Every time you level up you receive a point that you can spend on upgrading Warfare Devices, but you won’t get any points to spend on attributes. To upgrade those, you’ll first need to find three Mainframe Components and then combine them to create a Mainframe Expansion. Only then will you get a point that you can spend on your attributes.

It only costs one Mainframe Expansion to upgrade an attribute for the first time, but each subsequent upgrade will increase the number of expansions needed. Every upgrade raises the potency of the attribute by 5% and you can upgrade each of them up to five times. There aren’t enough Mainframe Components to max out all attributes so make sure to plan accordingly.
Mainframe Components While Exploring
The two ways of acquiring Mainframe Components in Everspace 2 are looting during exploration and completing location challenges. The first option is pretty straightforward and simply involves looting all the containers and shipwrecks you come across in your travels. Of course, only some of them will contain Mainframe Components. These locations and shipwrecks are sometimes well hidden but don't worry because we listed them all down below along with some tips on how to find them.

Mainframe Components Via Location Challenges
The second option involves exploring minor sites and completing the challenges found within. Whenever you complete a challenge, you will be rewarded with a Mainframe Component.
