What is the acceptance rate for CMU Edu? ›

Carnegie Mellon University has an acceptance rate of 11%. Half the applicants admitted to Carnegie Mellon University who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1490 and 1570 or an ACT score of 34 and 35.

Academics at Carnegie Mellon are rigorous, providing our students with expertise in their chosen field of study.

Undergraduate academic performance is the strongest predictor of success in this degree program. Typically, applicants have a minimum GPA of 3.33 (or its equivalent) or higher.

Increased chances of admission: Applying ED typically results in a higher acceptance rate compared to Regular Decision (RD), as colleges prefer students who are committed to attending. For CMU, the ED acceptance rate has historically been higher than RD, so applying ED could boost your chances.

All waitlists are hard to get off. But according to U.S. News & World Report, Carnegie Mellon is one of the top 10 hardest schools in America to get off the waitlist. For the 2022-2023 year, 8,986 applicants were wait-listed. 4,652 accepted positions on the wait list and just 43 were admitted.

Carnegie Mellon may grant advanced placement and credit for scores of four and five on exams taken in the Advanced Placement program.

What is work study CMU? ›

These programs provide funding to qualifying students to work to earn an hourly wage through part time employment in a variety of on-campus jobs. Students earning work-study are paid semi-monthly through direct deposit to a personal banking account not their CMU Student Account.

"The reason our overall enrollment is down is because as each class has gotten smaller," Vice President of Student Recruitment and Retention Jennifer DeHaemers said. "When you're graduating with people who got here four years ago, it's a bigger class than the incoming ones.

It's no secret that life at competitive institutions like Carnegie Mellon can be very stressful. Rigorous coursework and hypercongested schedules coupled with fears of failure cause all students to feel stressed at some point in their college careers.

What Are the New Ivies? In 2006, Newsweek coined the phrase "New Ivies." These schools rank high in academics and faculty, even if they don't reach the endowment size or elite status of the Ivies. Newsweek's list includes both public and private schools, such as Carnegie Mellon, UNC-Chapel Hill, Emory, and Notre Dame.

Keep in mind that only a few percent of applicants are admitted, and many highly qualified candidates are not accepted for a variety of reasons having to do with funding and capacity constraints. So there is no shame in not being admitted.

In a typical year, we receive over 800 applications, although in a year in which the economy is down, this number can approach 1,000. The Tepper School's acceptance rates are highly selective, in the 3-5 percent range, given the small size of the program overall and the school's ability to support Ph. D.

You should also have a 3.9 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score. For a school as selective as Carnegie Mellon, you'll also need to impress them with the rest of your application.
