Two months later, the alleged couple was spotted having lunch together with Carpenter's sister.
By Halloween, Bassett and Carpenter coordinated costumes dressing up as Sharkboy and Lavagirl.
As things progressed between the two, singer Olivia Rodrigo released her hit single Drivers License which fans speculated was a song about her relationship with ex-boyfriend Joshua Bassett.
The song eludes to the idea that Bassett left Rodrigo for Carpenter.
Carpenter clapped back and released Skin, which was an apparent response to Rodrigo's single.
On May 11, 2021, Joshua Bassett came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community on Instagram.
Carpenter showed her support by commenting a heart on his post.
Though the two never officially confirmed a relationship by December 2021, Joshua confirmed he was single in an interview with GQ.

However, as of December 2023, the singer has been romantically linked to actor Barry Keoghan.
The two were spotted having a dinner date at a restaurant in Los Angeles.
Prior to Carpenter, Keoghan was dating Alyson Kierans — a dental nurse.
The two began dating in September 2021 and welcomed a son in August 2022.

Sabrina Carpenter was revealed to be joining award-winning pop star Taylor Swift on her 2023-2024 Eras Tour.
